College Recommendation Letter Dos and Donts
College Recommendation Letter Dos and Donts Recommendation lettersà provide collegeà admission committeesà with information that may or may not be found in your application, including academic andà work achievements,à character references, and personal details that set you apart from other applicants. Essentially, a recommendation letter is aà personal referenceà that explains why the school should recognize you, your achievements, and your character. Good vs. Bad Recommendation Letters A good recommendation letter is a must for any school application. During admissions, most colleges and universities- whether theyre reviewing the applications of undergraduate or graduate students- expect to see at least one, and often two or three, recommendation letters for each applicant. Just as aà good recommendation letterà can be an asset, aà bad recommendation letterà can be a hindrance. Bad letters dont do anything to supplement your application, and they may even make the difference between a well-rounded application and one that doesnt quite stand out among the droves of people who are applying to the same school. Recommendation Letter Dos Here are some dos to keep in mind when securing your recommendation letters: Do choose someone who likes you and knows you well enough to write you a strong recommendation.Do get recommendations from employers, professors, school administrators, and anyone else who is familiar with your work ethic.Do ask for the recommendation in person rather than sending an email (unless this is not possible).Do tell the letter writer why you need the recommendation letter. You dont want to end up with a work reference rather than an academic reference.Do mention specific things that you would like to see included. If you want the letter to focus on your extensive leadership experience, you should say so.Do proofread the letter; you dont want to submit a reference that is riddled with spelling or punctuation errors.à Do send a thank you note afterward. This is a nice, thoughtful, and classy touch and will be remembered by your recommender.Do keep multiple copies of the letter. You may need to use it again in the future, and you dont want to rely on your recommender to kee p a copy. Recommendation Letter Donts There are also some big mistakes you should try to avoid when securing your recommendation letters: Dont wait until the last minute. It takes time for a recommender to craft a strong letter.à Secure letters of recommendation as soon as possible.Dont ask someone to lie; you should aim for a truthful reference.Dont ever forge signatures. Your recommendation letter must be genuine.Dont choose someone only because of their title. Its more important to pick a recommender who knows you and your work well.Dont choose someone who is a poor writer. Letter writing is a lost art; not everyone is good at expressing themselves in the written word.Dont hesitate to get as many recommendation letters as possible. Choose the ones that show you in the best light.Dont be surprised if the person you are asking for a recommendation letter asks you to write a letter that they will later modify and sign. This is a common practice.Dont forget to say please and thank you. No one is entitled to a letter of recommendation; if you receive one, you should be grateful.

Why Nuclear Power Station Is Better than Normal Power Station in Essay
Why Nuclear Power Station Is Better than Normal Power Station in Generating Electricity - Essay Example Introduction: This project is about nuclear energy and how important it is in our life as a source of energy that can be produced in nuclear reactor. Nuclear reactor can produce a high amount of energy which can use to boil water in order to produce a high amount of steam which helps to generate electricity. Nuclear power station is an efficient source of energy that can produce a huge amount of electricity and relatively cheaper than the other source of energy; able to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases which play an important role in changing the environment; and has a high level of safety equipment to monitor and prevent any error or failure. Therefore, relaying on nuclear may change the future of the world and the future of our new generation. Advanced methods are employed to make nuclear power safer and more cost efficient. The advanced ABWR (Advanced boiling water reactor) and PWR (Pressurized water reactor) techniques have made the nuclear power much cost efficient. The a dvanced core cooling techniques made nuclear power safer for the future. Now a day our major problem is the green house gases emissions and to address the problem nuclear power has a better and safe solution. Nuclear power is free from green house gases emissions. ... In comparison, one kilogram of uranium releases almost the same energy produce by 1 million kilogram of coal (Dittmar, 2009). This energy release because the atom in nucleus split into two fragments and the two fragments split into four and then four to eight and thus a chain reaction starts. At every split, a large amount of thermal energy is released, which is used to heat water to generate power. This is all that happens in all nuclear reactors to produce that huge amount of energy. The capital investment that is required in building a nuclear power plant is comparatively higher than other power plants but the operating cost of a nuclear power plant is lower than a conventional coal or gas fired power plants. Secondly, using nuclear energy as an alternative source of energy will reduce the amount that spent in producing electricity by using fossil fuel. The cost of nuclear fuel is comparatively low as compared coal or gas in terms of energy released. However, there is misunderstan ding between the cost of nuclear energy production and the cost of producing nuclear as station that include a high safety level and materials use to control it outcome disposal. The cost of any nuclear power plant is highly dependent on the structure, locality and cooling techniques utilized to remove the unnecessary heat or decay heat. Decay heat or unnecessary heat produced by a nuclear reactor is a big problem and it should be taken care of. Pumping cool water through the nuclear reactor helps remove the decay heat. A structure that could hold a lot of water like a lake should be built before or after constructing a nuclear power plant. If a power plant is near a natural source of water,

Discussion Question - Essay Example This is in the light of capital constraints, where each of the affiliates to the company provides a suitable ground for shareholder value maximization. Shifting capital in this case would be informed by the performance of each affiliate prior to capital shifting and the extent of value maximization required. Capital should be shifted from relatively low performing affiliates to relatively high performing ones, allowing for diversification of shareholder value maximization. Managing working capital is critical to the daily operations undertaken by the company (Brigham & Ehrhardt, 2010). This is more so in line with the relationship between working capital and inventory portfolio. Increase in inventory costs restrains the production capacity of the firm. As a result, working capital becomes directly involved due to the fact that inventories are dealt with every single day. Production needs to flow, and the production capacity should improve as opposed to deteriorating. In this regard, the financial manager of the company should devote more time in managing working capital in such a way that mainstreams the inventory

Ethics in criminal justice - Essay Example Crime would decrease, as per the stated, consequent to the fact that the maximum penalties are allotted and, as mentioned, extenuating circumstances will not be considered. Within the context of the stated, zero tolerance emerges as highly egalitarian and consequently, ethical but, deeper investigation and more critical consideration of its implications indicates that, not only is the policy is not ethical. Zero tolerance is undeniably egalitarian. It holds that all individuals, irrespective of who they are or the circumstances surrounding their case, will be treated equally as regards the violation of particular laws. Given that there is hardly a legal system which is not founded upon the notion of all citizens as equal before the law, zero tolerance appears to emerge from within the very framework of legal ethics insofar as it offset the potential for the discriminatory application and implementation of the law (McArdle and Erzen, 2001). Judged on this basis, therefore, zero tolerance is ethical. Deeper investigation, however, indicates that zero tolerance is founded on a perverted notion of egalitarianism and can hardly be considered ethical. The fact of the matter is that, as Ayers et al. (2001) point out, rarely are all things equal in a crime; one who habitually drives under the influence, thereby exhibiting a persistent disregard for human life, can hardly be judged as equal to one who has only been found guilty of driving under the influence once. Similarly, a young girl who has been found guilty of solicitation can hardly be judged as would a seasoned prostitute. The point here is that all things are not equal and to impose artificial equality on comparable crimes, as does the zero tolerance policy, is to ignore the circumstances which led to the crime and which, indeed, may excuse it. Quite simply stated, giving a homeless teen jail-time for solicitation which may very will have

Management accounting - Essay Example Material L10 had a favorable usage variance because the materials used were of higher quality than standard, more effective use of material or there were errors in allocating material to jobs. On the other hand, material L17 had an adverse usage variance because of using defective material, excessive waste, or stricter quality control. The labour rate recorded a favorable variance due to use of workers at a rate of pay that was lower than the standard. Labour efficiency variance was adverse because maybe there was lost time in excess of standard allowed or output was lower than standard set due to lack of training and sub-standard materials. The adverse variable overhead expenditure could have been caused by increase in cost of services or excessive use of services. Variable overhead volume variance was adverse due to the production or the level of activity, labour hours, being less than the budgeted. On the other hand, the adverse fixed overhead expenditure could be caused by the same factors that led to an adverse variable overhead expenditure. This is because of the fact that both fixed and variable overheads were being allocated using the same basis, labour hours. In addition, the production or the level of activity being less than the budgeted can explain the adverse fixed overhead capacity. ABC involves identification of elements, causing the costs of a businessââ¬â¢s major activities (Clinton, 2004). Overheads incurred are charged to units based on their cost drivers causing the overheads. The ideas behind ABC are: Both traditional absorption costing and activity base costing systems adopt the two-stage allocation process. However, in allocation of overheads ABC establishes separate pools for support activities such as dispatching (Gunther, 2005). As costs of activities are assigned directly to products through cost driver rates, reapportionment of services department costs is

Inclusive Practice in Social Work Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Inclusive Practice in Social Work - Essay Example Enforcing such a law is just one of the strategies of promoting inclusive practice in the education sector because the government puts enough mechanisms to ensure that even children from poor backgrounds access quality education just as those from well of families. Other states must follow the same example and adopt such policies to ensure that education is accessible and affordable to all children. Right to quality healthcare is one of the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitutions of most countries. As a professional healthcare worker working in the healthcare sector, I will ensure that I treat all the clients equally. I will serve them with respect and in accordance with the accepted professional code of conduct and I will not discriminate anyone on whatever basis. As I offer my services to the clients, I will also share the same idea to them that they embrace inclusive practice at whatever capacity they are in. I will try to influence my colleagues to do the same, to show respect to all clients and treat them in a humane manner regardless of their social, economic or religious backgrounds. In the care homes, the only way to make clients feel at home is to treat them well regardless of their conditions or social standings. Most of the elderly people suffer from degenerative and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure. Showing them love and allowing them to participate in decision making makes them more proactive. Sympathizing with their situations is not a solution, rather it is important to encourage and help them overcome their challenges. Inclusive practice in such a context is all about giving the elderly a chance to all make their input in the society and acknowledging that they also have a lot to offer. Therefore, inclusive practice in social work is something very important practice that must be encouraged in social settings such as schools,

Code of Ethics for Psychologists - Coursework Example However, the use of deception can be methodologically and psychologically justifiable which, according to Pittinger (2003), validates the revision of this code. I think that the code should be revised to excuse deceptive practices that aim to acquire accurate results or findings. The second code is 2.03 or Maintaining Competence which states that ââ¬Å"psychologists undertake ongoing efforts to develop and maintain their competence.â⬠The principle expressed by this code is Principle B (Fidelity and Responsibility). Declining competence over the course of therapy or in clinical assessments would harm clients severely, particularly those who are highly vulnerable, such as individuals with mental illness. For example, a mentally ill individual agreed to take part in a study but his condition worsens while the study progresses, so the relatives decided to withdraw him from the study. The right decision then depends on the competence of the psychologists.
